A mix of usual cartoon, which is good, and strange computer graphics, which make scenes look more like cutscenes of playstation 1 games of the same era.
#Silver surfer 13 review series
But Silver Surfer is not at the same standard as other series like the X-Men. It is also cool to see Marvel spread their cartoon range into lesser known characters, and introduce species like the Skrulls and many other major characters involved in the MCU 15 years later. There are certainly positives to the series, mostly that it is a series, rather than one-off episodes. Unless you're a die-hard Marvel Comics fan, Silver Surfer isn't really worth watching, not least because it ended on a cliffhanger before it was cancelled. BOTTOM LINE: ANOTHER GOOD MARVEL COMIC BOOK CARTOON SERIES ON THE PAST FOX KIDS SHOWS User Rating: 9/10

Now that Marvel is doing well, I hope they try to bring the show back and show the episodes of the second season. The other shows that are my all time favorite Fox Kids shows are Spider-Man (1994), X-Men (1992), Life with Louie, The New Woody Woodpecker Show (The 1999 verison), Oggy and the Cockroaches, Mad Jack the Pirate, Toonsylvania, Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot, Digimon: Digital Monsters, Medabots, Mon Colle Knights, Action Man, Flint the Time Detective, Space Goofs, NASCAR Racers and The Avengers. But it was again those stupid Power Rangers fault! Yet again! Because this show was one of my all time favorite shows that were on Fox Kids. Because they should of had some more seasons just like some other Marvel Comic Book heroes that got their own shows like Spider-Man (1994), X-Men (1992) and The Incredible Hulk (1996). And presumably, they're just getting started.I really thought the Silver Surfer series was very neat and I also like all the computer animation that was in there! But I cannot believe why Fox Kids would cancel it. Despite unfolding entirely on Earth rather than in space, this issue looks and feels as epic as anything else Slott and the Allreds have conjured so far. Laura Allred's vivid colors only further bring the conflict to life. His bombastic character designs and epic depiction of the battle for Earth make every page a thrill to read. As much as Slott's writing channels the spirit of Jack Kirby, Allred's art is practically the second coming of Kirby. Rarely has Mike Allred's art suited this book so well. Slott even finds room to play up the romantic tension, as Dawn comes to grips with meeting both Alicia Masters and Shalla-Bal and realizing she's far from the first woman Norrin has fallen for.

The script is melodramatic and goofy in that old Silver Age way, but also completely earnest. This issue serves as an excellent tribute to Jack Kirby's work in that regard. As outlandish as the villains might appear, and as goofy as the idea of alien space gods holding a gun to the head of pop culture as we know it, there's a real gravitas to the conflict and Surfer's realization that he's become an enemy of both his old home and his current one. This issue succeeds in retaining the series' generally lighthearted and whimsical feel while injecting a larger sense of drama into the conflict.

And it what is perhaps the most amusing twist of all, The Thing finds himself cast as the herald to this new "Devourer of Worlds." Any chance Slott can get to write Ben Grimm is one worth taking. Instead of physical destruction, Earth faces cultural annihilation and assimilation. Only this time, instead of Galactus Surfer is facing his old lover, Shalla-Bal. Once again Surfer is making a stand for his new adopted home against an all-powerful foe bent on wiping it out of existence. Whether these next few issues will live up to that promise remains to be seen, but Silver Surfer #3 is nothing if not an entertaining Silver Surfer comic.įittingly, this issue calls back to the original Silver Surfer storyline from Fantastic Four #48-50 in various fun ways. Writer Dan Slott is entering a critical phase of his Silver Surfer run, one that promises to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his original debut by completely changing how readers look at this character.
